Plans from Bandai Namco and Square Enix were leaked via two age ratings, so something is definitely in the works.
On April 16, PEGI, the European rating board, rated Tales of Eternia Remastered. The game was released in North America as Tales of Destiny II in 2000. Originally released on the PS1, it also received a PSP port in 2005. The game received a PEGI 12 rating due to moderate violence and profanity. It is an RPG that follows Reid and his friends, Farah and Keele, as they meet a mysterious girl named Meredy who speaks an unknown language. During their quest to uncover her origins, they cross the boundary between dimensions and arrive in a different world called Celestia.
“This game contains depictions of non-realistic violence toward human and fantasy characters. Players defeat pixelated enemies with magical attacks and wield weapons such as daggers, spears, swords and axes. The violence can be frenetic, with exaggerated, colorful impact effects. Players have a health bar that depletes when they are hit, and they can hear and see characters react to pain upon impact in a non-detailed way. If a member of the player’s squad is defeated in battle, they will remain on the ground while defeated enemies quickly vanish. The game also contains bad language, including the word ‘bastard’”, PEGI wrote about the game.
Meanwhile, Taiwan’s age rating committee has rated Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age – Definitive Edition for the Nintendo Switch 2. Originally released for the Nintendo Switch in September 2019, it was followed by ports for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC in December 2020. It is possible that PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series versions will follow if the Nintendo Switch 2 gets one, but that remains speculation for now.
Neither Tales of Eternia Remastered nor the Nintendo Switch 2 port of Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age – Definitive Edition has been announced yet, but it is probably only a matter of time.
