Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8: Will A Price Cut Make It An Even Less Attractive Deal?

TECH NEWS – This will further strengthen the market position of Samsung’s other premium smartphone, the Galaxy S26 Ultra.

Amid the DRAM crisis, Samsung is cutting prices on its premium smartphone lineup as part of a strategy to maintain profitability. However, this means that the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8 will be so heavily discounted that the Galaxy S26 Ultra will be a more attractive choice for buyers. After all, Samsung’s next foldable flagship will be expensive and lack features found in other Samsung product lines.

According to Ice Universe, a well-known leaker, Samsung will introduce three compromises in the Galaxy Z Fold 8. The foldable device will lack the Privacy Display feature, one of the most significant updates to the Galaxy S26 Ultra. Based on numerous tests, this feature outperformed third-party privacy screen protectors and offered users extensive software control options, making it one of the best smartphone innovations.

The Privacy Display may be omitted from the Galaxy Z Fold 8 due to technical challenges and the increased costs of upgrading to Ultra-Thin Glass. Furthermore, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 will not support the S Pen. According to the leaker, the stylus simply won’t work on the foldable flagship because it likely lacks a digitizer. Finally, the crease on the Galaxy Z Fold 8 isn’t expected to improve significantly, suggesting that Samsung may reuse the hinge materials from the Galaxy Z Fold 7.

It’s disappointing that Samsung would resort to such setbacks when we consider the improvements Apple is reportedly making with its liquid metal hinge to eliminate creasing on the iPhone Fold and the fact that competitors are expected to follow this approach. It is said that the South Korean company will source BOE OLED panels for the base model of the Galaxy S27 instead of using its own display manufacturing division. This decision is intended to reduce component costs and increase profit margins. However, Samsung will likely face significant criticism for devaluing one of the most expensive smartphone releases of 2026.

From a business perspective, this is the right move. The company has not been as successful selling foldable smartphones as it has with its traditional flagship models. Since the Galaxy S26 Ultra continues to sell well, Samsung would rather focus on its most popular model.
