Star Wars Zero Company: Is This XCOM Clone the First Gust of the Autumn Storm?

We have learned another game’s release date from a semi-official source, and it seems the title is trying to squeeze in just before a very messy period.

September is going to be a very crowded period because of the planned November 19 release of Grand Theft Auto VI. Remedy Entertainment, Insomniac Games, and Capcom, for example, are launching their big guns within a few weeks, and with further announcements expected at Summer Game Fest and the Xbox Games Showcase on June 7, the month could become even more packed. The tactical turn-based game Star Wars Zero Company, developed by Bit Reactor and Respawn, fortunately avoids the bloodbath, but only by a few days.

According to the always reliable billbil-kun, the turn-based game will launch on August 27 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC, just barely avoiding a September release so it can likely enjoy better visibility compared with the games arriving in the following weeks. A Deluxe Edition will also be released, though the extra content is unknown, apart from early access, which has become very common in recent years. The standard edition will cost $50/€50 on PC and $60 on consoles, while the Deluxe Edition will cost $60/€60 on PC and $70 on consoles, with the euro prices for the console versions still unknown.

Star Wars Zero Company is certain to appear during Summer Game Fest, so we will soon learn more about this project, which opens new horizons in the world of Star Wars games. Over the past few years, we have seen plenty of action games based on the franchise, but there has not yet been a tactical turn-based game, so it will be very interesting to see how Bit Reactor uses the setting to deliver an experience that is supposedly more than a Star Wars XCOM clone.

Star Wars Zero Company is not the only game based on the franchise coming this year, as Star Wars Galactic Racer is due in October. Beyond that, we heard last week that Star Wars Jedi 3 will feature an older Cal Kestis, and that Quantic Dream’s Star Wars Eclipse is still in development despite the studio’s problems, even though we have heard almost nothing substantial about it since its announcement. Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic, the spiritual successor to the immortal Knights of the Old Republic – whose remake is still in development – is also in the works.
