Persona 6 Is Finally Official – A Completely New Story Begins [VIDEO]

ATLUS has announced Persona 6 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC. The next major entry in the series will feature a standalone story, a new cast of characters, modern-day Japan, supernatural danger, and the bond-driven formula that has defined Persona.

After years of waiting, ATLUS has officially revealed Persona 6. The game is in development for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC, where it will be available via Steam and the Microsoft Store, though no release date has been announced yet. With the Persona series now having sold more than 30 million copies worldwide, this is not just another RPG announcement. It is one of the bigger moments for modern Japanese role-playing games.

Persona 6 carries forward the familiar foundations of the series, but wraps them around a completely fresh, standalone story and a new cast. The dual life structure returns: school days, friendships, romance, and meaningful memories on one side; supernatural danger beneath the surface on the other. Familiar streets and quiet neighborhoods hide strange rumors, unsettling urban legends, and occult incidents that only the protagonist and their closest allies can face.

Bonds Once Again Become Weapons

According to ATLUS, one of the central ideas of Persona 6 is once again the awakening of inner power. A Persona is the manifestation of one’s innermost self, and the player will discover others who share that extraordinary ability. For returning fans, that is familiar territory: every relationship nurtured makes the character stronger, and every bond forged becomes a weapon against the darkness lurking within.

ATLUS is also making it clear that this sixth entry is designed as a valid starting point. The Persona series has more than 30 years of history, beginning in 1996 with Revelations: Persona as a spin-off of the Shin Megami Tensei franchise, before growing into one of ATLUS’ flagship RPG series. Even so, every numbered entry tells its own complete, standalone story, which means no prior experience is required for Persona 6.

That does not mean long-time fans have any less reason to pay attention. Persona 6 is being positioned as both a perfect entry point for newcomers and a haunting, profound new mystery for those who have been waiting for the next major chapter. ATLUS is keeping the core formula intact: ordinary life in modern-day Japan, emotionally meaningful relationships, and the moment when personal darkness becomes something much more literal.
