Is an Unannounced Multiplayer Title of The Witcher in the Works for PC and Mobile?

While a remake of the first game and The Witcher IV are in development, the Polish developers have another project in the works.

In addition to these single-player experiences and a new expansion for The Witcher 3, which is currently in development, CD Projekt RED (CDPR) has confirmed the release of a spin-off title codenamed Sirius. This title will focus on multiplayer gameplay in addition to the single-player experience. This title shares many similarities with an upcoming project recently uncovered by MP1st. According to the site’s source, this new game set in The Witcher universe is a free-to-play, cooperative, action RPG in development. While some aspects of this unannounced project resemble the aforementioned Project Sirius on paper, it is currently only aimed at PC and mobile devices, with no mention of console platforms.

This free-to-play model and choice of platforms may reflect the scope of Horizon Steel Frontiers, another massive single-player series that skipped consoles to create an ambitious cross-platform cooperative experience. The story is set in 1230, when Geralt was a young witcher. In the game, players can create their own customizable witcher and enjoy the usual multiplayer options (e.g., customizing gender and appearance). We embark on quests across various environments, such as dark forests, bustling villages, and eerie ruins, to slay monsters players know from the series. The combat mechanics are driven by a skill-based system that allows players to choose from different Witcher school abilities and shape their combat style by mastering signs and brewing potions. This combat system appears to reward players for their skill in executing well-timed blocks, dodges, parries, and finishing moves.

Although the site was unable to confirm the development studio behind the project or the release date, there is a general idea of which team might be involved. In March 2025, CDPR announced its partnership with Scopely, the mobile studio behind numerous massive hits, to work on one of CDPR’s IPs. Neither company has disclosed which IP is involved, but the most obvious possibilities are The Witcher and Cyberpunk. The Polish studio has previously expressed interest in bringing these two franchises to mobile devices.

The last update on the Scopely project was during an earnings call in March, when CDPR stated that it was too early in the development process to reveal anything substantial, but there was still time before the reveal. According to CDPR, Scopely and its team are iterative, working quickly and hard. The goal is to achieve a result that satisfies both parties, so things are moving forward. However, this is definitely not a story for 2026.

If this multiplayer title becomes a Scopely project, it could mark a turning point in the history of the series’ mobile versions based on its ambitious scope alone. Previous smartphone releases in the franchise have met with mixed success. While we’ve seen successful multiplatform ports, such as Gwent and Thronebreaker, other games developed exclusively for mobile, like The Witcher: Monster Slayer, failed to capture players’ attention and was shut down just two years after its release.

As we await official confirmation of this unannounced project, it’s worth noting that CDPR has considered implementing multiplayer elements since the beginning of The Witcher series.
