F1: The Movie Sequel Moves Closer as Brad Pitt Eyes Another Lap

MOVIE NEWS – Apple and producer Jerry Bruckheimer both want to continue the story of F1: The Movie. The sequel has not been officially announced yet, but comments from an Apple executive and the film’s producer strongly suggest that Brad Pitt could return to the world of Formula 1.

F1: The Movie opened in theaters in June 2025 and went on to become not only Apple’s biggest movie success to date, but also the highest-grossing film of Brad Pitt’s entire career. Joseph Kosinski’s racing spectacle starred Pitt as Sonny Hayes, a former Formula 1 driver who gets another chance to prove himself after being brought into the struggling APXGP team by his old friend Rubén Cervantes, played by Javier Bardem. The movie earned more than $600 million worldwide, received an Academy Award nomination, and after a success of that scale, it was always a matter of time before Apple began seriously considering another race.

Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of services, addressed the future of the film while speaking onstage at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. He stopped short of confirming a specific project, but his comments made it clear that Apple wants to return to the track. “We’re going to do it again. Hopefully, we’re doing another Formula 1 movie. Everyone wants to see another one. It was Brad Pitt’s biggest movie of all time. It was a great story,” Cue said.

Jerry Bruckheimer Wants Brad Pitt Back on the Grid Too

Jerry Bruckheimer, the producer of F1: The Movie, appeared alongside Cue and left little doubt that he would also be eager to take another run at Sonny Hayes’ story. “I’m really excited because we’re going to come back and hopefully make another F1,” he said, before explaining that the audience response to the first movie has meant a great deal to him.

Bruckheimer said that many parents have approached him to explain that F1: The Movie has become the kind of film they are happy to show their children because it leaves them feeling good afterward. “So many people come to me and say, ‘Jerry, when I want to show my kids something, I’ll turn on F1 because I feel so good after seeing the movie.’ We try to entertain audiences around the world and tell them a great story, excite them, make them laugh, make them cry, make them feel better when they walk out,” the producer said.

That is still not the firm announcement fans of the first movie are waiting for, but Javier Bardem previously hinted that he had heard something about a sequel being developed. The actor could not offer any concrete details at the time, but he made it clear that he would gladly return. Cue and Bruckheimer now appear to be on the same page, and if the studio, the producers, and the cast all want to do it, APXGP may eventually find its way back to the starting grid.

An Apple UFO Thriller Could Delay the Sequel

The one major obstacle may be that Bruckheimer and Joseph Kosinski are currently focused on another Apple project. Their upcoming movie is a UFO thriller that Bruckheimer described as an All the President’s Men-style conspiracy story about what the U.S. government may have been hiding regarding unidentified anomalous phenomena. It will follow two government employees who encounter strange events, begin asking questions, and find doors closing in front of them one after another.

While Kosinski and Bruckheimer investigate mysteries in the sky, the second F1 movie may have to wait. But the signs are becoming increasingly difficult to ignore: Apple is unlikely to leave a several-hundred-million-dollar hit sitting at the finish line. Brad Pitt’s Sonny Hayes has not been handed another race number yet, but the engines behind him may already be starting to rev again.
