MOVIE NEWS – Disney+’s July releases include the second season of X-Men ’97, the fifteenth season of King of the Hill, two new National Geographic series, and a new Descendants film. The platform will also add returning shows, children’s programming, and a true-crime documentary during the month.
The second season of X-Men ’97 launches on July 1 with a three-episode premiere. The new episodes continue after the first season finale, with the X-Men separated across different periods in time as they try to find their way back to one another and to their own era. Meanwhile, the 1990s must deal with the consequences of the team’s absence, as new threats emerge and anti-mutant prejudice grows stronger.
All episodes of Sharks Up Close with Bertie Gregory arrive on July 5. Emmy and BAFTA-winning cinematographer and National Geographic explorer Bertie Gregory travels into the Pacific waters off Mexico to observe hammerhead sharks, whose numbers have declined dramatically in recent years. The series also examines the role protected marine areas can play in monitoring and preserving the species.
Tom Hiddleston returns to Disney+ on July 23, this time outside the Marvel universe. Pompeii: Out of Time with Tom Hiddleston will be released in full and uses archaeology, historical research, expert analysis, and dramatized storytelling to reconstruct Pompeii’s final hours. Hiddleston works with archaeologists, historians, geologists, and disaster specialists to examine what may have happened before Mount Vesuvius erupted, including whether residents had realistic opportunities to escape.
A New Descendants Film and the Return of King of the Hill
Descendants: Wicked Wonderland arrives on July 17. Red and Chloe previously changed the past, prevented the Queen of Hearts from becoming an evil ruler, and saved Cinderella, but their actions soon create consequences neither expected. When Maddox Hatter captures the Queen of Hearts, the pair must return through the rabbit hole with Red’s sister Pink, Luisa Madrigal’s son Luis, and a group of young villains led by Maddox’s son Max.
The fifteenth season of King of the Hill will be available in full from July 20. The series once again follows Hank Hill, Peggy, Bobby, and their neighbours in Arlen, with Hank continuing to position himself as the voice of common sense in the middle of everyday problems. Bobby, meanwhile, is trying to build a life as an entrepreneur while maintaining his older friendships.
July 8 brings the complete second season of Shifting Gears. The series follows Matt, a widowed classic-car restorer whose daily life is upended when his estranged daughter Riley and her children move in. The new episodes continue to focus on both the restoration shop and the difficult process of rebuilding family relationships.
Children’s Shows, True Crime, and a Korean Action Series Also Arrive
July 8 also sees the arrival of Sofia The First: Royal Magic, Bluey Compilations, and the first season of A Shop for Killers. Its second season will arrive later on Disney+, although the service has not announced a specific release date yet.
Other July additions include The Cult of NatureBoy on July 15, They Fight on July 17, the second season of SuperKitties: Su-Purr Adventures shorts on July 22, and the fourth season of The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder on July 29. Disney+ notes that availability may vary by country.
