TECH NEWS: After ending the Note series, it is not impossible that the South Korean tech giant will get rid of another product line.
Samsung appears ready to say goodbye to the Galaxy Z Flip series. One reason may be that the passport-sized Galaxy Z Fold 8 is prepared to fill the compact foldable-device niche, while Samsung also seems to be working relentlessly on launching its next-generation rollable phone in the not-too-distant future.
In May, rumors surfaced that Samsung was scaling back Galaxy Z Flip 8 production in favor of the passport-style Galaxy Z Fold 8, while raising the latter’s production target from 200,000 to 300,000 units.

On X, Fireuniverse claims that Samsung may discontinue the Flip series just as it did the Note line. That suggests that the Flip 8 could be Samsung’s final smartphone of this particular type.
We already know that the Galaxy Z Flip 8 will be around 0.5 mm thinner than the Flip 7 thanks to a new hinge mechanism. Its dimensions are expected to be 166.8 mm x 75.4 mm x 6.6 mm when open and 85.4 mm x 75.4 mm x 13.2 mm when folded. That means the Flip 8 will be roughly half a millimeter thinner than its predecessor in its folded state.
According to the leaker, the device will use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip. The Galaxy Z Flip 8 is also expected to feature a significantly smaller display crease, a 4.1-inch, or 10.414 cm, cover display, and a 6.9-inch, or 17.526 cm, inner screen.
That display configuration seems to be an exact match for the Flip 7, complemented by dual rear cameras and an LED flash on the cover panel. Meanwhile, the Korean outlet Money Today reports that Samsung is preparing to unveil its first rollable-display phone in 2028 after years of showing its rollable OLED technology at major trade events.
Samsung also registered the Galaxy Z Roll name as a trademark roughly five years ago. It is therefore very plausible that the Flip line will eventually be replaced by a rollable device that is arguably more exciting.
