Is the Release Window for Assassin’s Creed Hexe Still Up in the Air?

Details about the mysterious game are leaking out, but its status within Ubisoft is still uncertain since an internal deadline hasn’t been set yet.

Following the early success of Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag (which sold two million copies on launch day, pushing the series’ total sales past 250 million), Ubisoft is focusing on the next major title in the series: the mysterious Assassin’s Creed: Hexe. Announced nearly four years ago, Hexe will be a classic Assassin’s Creed installment in the style of the previous games. It follows the RPG-style Shadows, and it aligns with Ubisoft’s usual formula of alternating between RPG and classic games to satisfy two quite different audiences. Recently, Rogue, a well-known Ubisoft leaker, shared numerous details about the game on Twitter.

Ubisoft is reportedly planning to release the title earlier than expected. According to Rogue, the game, which explores the theme of witch trials, is currently scheduled for June 2027. However, the insider cautioned that this is an internal target, and development has proven complicated. Therefore, the release could easily be delayed, as has happened before. The leaker even shared details regarding pre-orders for the game. Ubisoft will release standard, deluxe, and collector’s editions priced at $70, $90, and $120, respectively. Pre-orders will reportedly include a bonus mission, similar to some previous releases.

He described the game as a large-scale, linear experience centered on several villages, vast forests, and other interconnected areas. Its structure is more guided than that of Shadows. This more focused design fits well with the game’s purported setting: a story-driven historical drama centered on the German witch trials. In the game, the player takes on the role of Anika, a young woman who finds herself in grave danger as the story progresses. The narrative shifts between multiple locations over time and features eerie areas, suspicious NPCs, and an increasingly dark atmosphere, which could result in a PEGI 18 rating.

The movement system will be fluid with a strong emphasis on old-school Assassin’s Creed–style movement but will be more advanced than ever. Ubisoft removed magic, but it has returned in a different form. This is rather vague, but it suggests that Ubisoft is aiming for a more realistic or symbolic representation of magic rather than overt sorcery. A few months ago, Rogue hinted that the game would be set in Würzburg. In terms of the German witch trials, Würzburg plays a role in Bavaria similar to that of Salem. Rogue also hinted that the protagonist of Assassin’s Creed II, Ezio Auditore, would return in some form as a mentor since Anika is descended from his bloodline.

Of course, none of this has been confirmed yet. Let’s just hope Ubisoft doesn’t cancel this game, too.
