Deborah Ann Woll knows about the abuse aimed at the Faye-led spin-off, but staying away from social media has kept most of the negativity at a distance.
After God of War Ragnarök and its Valhalla expansion concluded the latest chapter of Kratos’ story, many fans expected another adventure centred on him. Santa Monica Studio instead put Faye at the heart of the spin-off God of War: Laufey, a decision that frustrated part of the audience and triggered a wave of openly misogynistic comments.
During a signing session at Florida Supercon, a fan asked Deborah Ann Woll how much the backlash had affected her. The True Blood and Daredevil actor said she had genuinely expected the remarks to have a much stronger impact, but she does not use social media and therefore avoids much of the hostility.
“I’m completely unconcerned, because the game is great.”
Woll accepts that a game led by Faye may not suit everyone’s taste. In her view, however, wanting something different from the series does not make this project a bad or inherently worthless idea.
Faye’s Story Was Not a Last-Minute Decision
The concept predates the public announcement by years: Cory Barlog began discussing the possibility of a Faye-focused game in 2018. Santa Monica Studio has shared few details beyond the first gameplay presentation, although it has confirmed a physical edition. Rumours point to a 2027 release, but neither Sony nor the studio has announced an official date.
