Patrice Désilets and Panache Digital Games will launch 1666: Amsterdam in early access on August 25. The witchcraft-driven semi-open-world adventure will initially include only the opening chapter of its campaign.

Patrice Désilets, best known as the creator of Assassin’s Creed, is returning to an idea he has carried for many years. He first conceived 1666: Amsterdam while working at Ubisoft. After spending a long time out of the public eye, the project was formally revived at Summer Game Fest 2026.

Panache Digital Games, the studio founded by Désilets, has confirmed an August 25 early access release through Steam and the Epic Games Store. A new gameplay presentation accompanied the announcement and offered the clearest look yet at seventeenth-century Amsterdam, including its changing day-and-night cycle.

The city is structured as a semi-open world divided into districts, and full moons transform it as supernatural energy spreads through the environment. Playing as Noa, users must hunt the Originals, creatures linked to infernal forces that have hidden among humans for centuries. The mission has been passed down through generations.

How long will 1666: Amsterdam remain in early access?

The launch build will not represent the complete game. Panache currently expects early access to last for roughly one year, although the studio says it cannot guarantee an exact timetable. Several major updates will add material in progressive chapters, while community feedback will be used to refine the project on the road to version 1.0.

The first release contains the campaign’s opening chapter and is estimated to provide around 15 hours of play. Future updates will unlock additional districts, extend the story and introduce more Originals. As a Collector, Noa must locate these beings disguised as humans and reclaim the power they have accumulated over centuries.

The price will also evolve during development. Panache intends to reward early participants with a particularly attractive starting price, then gradually increase the cost as 1666: Amsterdam approaches its full release.
