MOVIE NEWS – Ridley Scott wants to steer the future of the Alien franchise again by continuing the story of Michael Fassbender’s David. The new film could connect the ending of Alien: Covenant with the world established by Alien: Romulus.

More than two years have passed since Alien: Romulus reached theaters, grossed $350 million worldwide, and gave the sci-fi horror franchise fresh momentum. A direct sequel still has not been formally announced, while Ridley Scott is now openly discussing a return to the prequel storyline he began.

Speaking with AlloCiné, the director said he wants to pick up where Alien: Covenant ended. That would bring Michael Fassbender’s android David back to the center of the story, with the character now seeing himself as an Ozymandias-like figure.

“I already have the foundation for the next Alien film, continuing David’s story after Covenant,” Scott said.

20th Century Studios president Steve Asbell previously denied that the Alien: Romulus sequel had been cancelled. Fede Álvarez had worked on a script and planned to stay involved as a producer, although he would not return as director. Scott’s new plan therefore raises the possibility that the studio could merge the Prometheus–Alien: Covenant storyline with the direction established by Romulus.

Scott remains fascinated by artificial intelligence that escapes human control, making David an obvious driving force for the next chapter. A crossover could finally complete Scott’s prequel trilogy while creating a new route forward for the Alien: Romulus characters, but the studio has not yet announced a title, cast, or release date.
