PlayStation 5 Pro: Why You Shouldn’t Dismiss It Just Because of Pre-Order Numbers! [VIDEO]

The more powerful model of the PlayStation 5 is now available for pre-order, but so far there hasn’t been enough interest to sell out in a hurry.

Digital Foundry’s editors discussed the PlayStation 5 Pro pre-orders in their weekly podcast. Before the pandemic, it was the norm for pre-orders not to sell out, but during the pandemic, it often did. Compared to the PlayStation 4 Pro and Xbox One X, there will not be as much interest, as those two consoles were sold at the price they were set at when the base model was released. However, the supply chain has improved since the pandemic, making it easier to keep up with supply.

Sony is unlikely to see significant sales of the PlayStation 5 Pro as it focuses on the full range. The P55 Pro has a higher profit margin (allowing the company to make a bigger splash with the hardcore audience), so it’s not in Sony’s interest to have a more powerful PlayStation 5 edition compete with the base model in terms of sales. According to Digital Foundry, the console will sell enough that developers will consider making good PlayStation 5 Pro versions of their games to take advantage of the hardware’s capabilities.

The editors had a chance to play Final Fantasy VII Rebirth on PlayStation 5 Pro. They found that Square Enix’s game had image stability issues, particularly with foliage and geometric objects in the background. While it didn’t have the native 4K resolution and stability of TAA, the image quality was still much better, especially when compared to what we saw in performance mode on the base PlayStation 5. But you probably wouldn’t expect anything else, as the graphics settings for PlayStation 5 Pro mode are identical to PlayStation 5 graphics mode.

The PlayStation 5 Pro will be available from November 7th for $700/€800. The Blu-ray drive and vertical stand are not included.
