MOVIE NEWS – The director of Venom 3 has responded to rumours that she could be the director of the next James Bond film, in which Tom Hardy would play the title character…

Kelly Marcel, better known as a screenwriter until now, will make her directorial debut this month with Venom: The Last Dance. Marcel was recently rumoured to be on the list of directors being tapped to direct the next James Bond film. Now speaking to THR, she revealed whether these rumours are true. Also, how she was able to sneak some 007 references into the latest Venom movie…

“(Laughs.) Yeah, that’s an extraordinary list to be on. I was flabbergasted. There’s never been a female Bond director, and of course, when you see something like that, it’s just incredibly humbling. So I’m grateful to be mentioned alongside any of those brilliant, brilliant directors.”

Of course, Venom star Tom Hardy has long been a fan favorite for the role of James Bond.

While we wait for the official announcement of which actor will be chosen for the role of the iconic spy, in Venom 3, Hardy plays a Bond-like character in certain scenes, hiding in a tuxedo. From this, some immediately deduced that the scene was a reference to the popular actor’s next role… so, was Marcel hinting at something?

“(Laughs.) Well, there’s always been these rumours about him playing James Bond, so I may have been showing what Tom Hardy’s James Bond might look like.”

Tom Hardy has been one of the bookmakers’ favourites for the role of James Bond for quite some time now. Unfortunately, it is not very likely that the Oscar-nominated actor will ever get this iconic character. Still, fans have reason to be excited. Other favourites include Kraven the Hunter star Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Gladiator 2 actor Paul Mescal and Snowfall star Damson Idris. However, new research gives the number one spot to an old favourite: Henry Cavill, the Superman of the Man of Steel and Geralt of The Witcher, now leads the list in “Google searches, articles, article engagement and Reddit mentions for 31 potential actors”, making him a strong contender it matters.

As for who will direct the reboot, Eon is reportedly already negotiating with potential directors. In addition to Kelly Marcel, Oscar winner Edward Berger (All Quiet on the Western Front), Australian David Michôd, Bart Layton and Yann Demange are also on the list.

Directed by Kelly Marcel, Venom: The Last Dance stars Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock/Venom alongside Chiwetel Ejiofor, Juno Temple, Rhys Ifans, Peggy Lu, Alanna Ubach and Stephen Graham.
