MOVIE NEWS – James Gunn denies another ridiculous Matt Reeves-Batman rumour…
The new DCU hasn’t even officially launched yet, but in recent months, James Gunn has spent a lot of time debunking some of the weird rumors surrounding his upcoming films and the work of others under his leadership as co-CEO of DC Studios. In his latest firefight, Gunn addressed the rumours swirling around regarding the fate of Matt Reeves’ The Batman Part II.
Despite the success of the first film featuring the reimagined Dark Knight and the incredible reception of HBO’s The Penguin, there are still persistent suggestions that the upcoming movie is in trouble and may never happen. While it’s not really necessary for Gunn to come forward and clarify that the idea of this one is pretty ridiculous right now, he’s just doing it to clear things up.
The theory that the “Reevesverse” is dead is spreading on social media, with Robert Pattinson currently working on other films, and other actors claiming they haven’t spoken to Matt Reeves about a sequel. In a post on Threads, Gunn responded:
“Like why would you even believe a rando on social networking? Of course not. If it was canceled it would be canceled. Who has time for charades? I’ve been one of Matt’s biggest cheerleaders for years… since Cloverfield and the Apes’ movies. We are eagerly awaiting his script.”
James Gunn has already told fans how to avoid false DCU theories
It almost goes without saying that unless you hear it from a credible source, you shouldn’t believe anything you hear about a movie or TV series. In this case, James Gunn is the credible source. Plus, this isn’t the first time Gunn has advised fans on social media not to believe anything they read about the DC universe on screen unless it comes directly from him.
From casting rumours for the next Batman to ideas about which lost and forgotten DC characters could be next to be revived and rejuvenated by Gunn’s love of the comic book universe, there are several new rumours and “senses” popping up online every week. Any speculation that Matt Reeves’ Batman universe is about to be scrapped is incredibly far-fetched at this point.
After all, in the wake of The Penguin’s success, it seems like Warner Bros. Discovery’s commitment to this branch of their DC production is likely even more solid than before.
One of the main issues surrounding The Batman is the length of time between projects. The first film was released in 2021, and The Penguin followed this year. The second part of the film is now scheduled for 2026. Fans are used to big franchises just pouring out movies, but that’s changing very quickly, putting quality over quantity first, which has been lacking lately, especially in the superhero genre. While the long wait between projects is frustrating, if it means a better end result, then you have to give it time to work…
