MOVIE NEWS – It’s been two full years since the new Silent Hill film was shot, but no release date has been announced. Fans are growing nervous. The director of Return to Silent Hill confirms the film is finished—yet the premiere remains a mystery.

Back when Konami revealed Silent Hill 2: Remake, news also dropped that a new live-action Silent Hill movie was in the works, once again under the direction of Christophe Gans, who helmed the original 2006 adaptation. The film was shot a couple of years ago, and even had a brief teaser released… and then? Silence. No updates, no marketing, no confirmed release. What exactly is happening with Return to Silent Hill?

We don’t have a concrete answer, but what we do know is that, according to the director, the film is complete. “I finished the film ten days ago. It’s an adaptation of the second installment in the series, the most beloved by fans and the most difficult to adapt for cinema. (…) I’ve been working on it for five years. We shot it in early 2023 and aimed to finish by April 2024, but due to delays from the producers, we only wrapped in January.” Gans revealed in an interview with Le Point.

IMDb Lists November 21, but It’s Unconfirmed

A few days ago, IMDb quietly added a release date: November 21, 2024. But at the time of writing, no major media outlet had confirmed this date, particularly for a US release. In fairness, it’s not a bad date—there’s not much competition that weekend—but until the studio makes it official, all we can do is wait.

Fans were cautiously excited with Christophe Gans returning to direct and promising a faithful adaptation of Silent Hill 2. But the lack of concrete details and early promotional images has made many skeptical about the project’s fate and direction.

Like the game it’s based on, Return to Silent Hill centers on James Sunderland (Jeremy Irvine), who receives a letter from his dead wife (Hannah Emily Anderson) inviting him to meet her in the eerie town of Silent Hill. Evie Templeton also stars in the film.
