Iron Galaxy and Activision (Microsoft) have finally confirmed a firm release date for the long-awaited Nintendo Switch 2 version of the skateboarding revival.
Following the success of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2, the next-gen revamp of the third and fourth entries has landed in the hands of a different developer. Activision Blizzard made the perplexing decision to move Vicarious Visions—the team behind the well-received remake—over to Blizzard Entertainment, ultimately resulting in the studio’s dissolution. In its place, Iron Galaxy stepped up to handle the task. The studio is known for games such as Wreckateer (2012, Xbox 360), Divekick (2013, PS3 and PC; 2014, PS4 and Xbox One), Killer Instinct (2016, PC, Xbox One – Season 2 and 3), Extinction (2018, PC, PS4, Xbox One), and Rumbleverse (2022, PC, PS5, Xbox Series, PS4, Xbox One).
Among skateboarding games, the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater series—and its successors like Underground and American Wasteland—set the bar for fast-paced, fun experiences. The third game was especially significant for introducing the revert move, which allowed players to continue combos after landing from halfpipes and quarterpipes. It pushed the arcade style even further, and despite its simplicity, the fluidity and momentum made it one of the most entertaining experiences of the early 2000s. If that core rhythm remains intact, the new version should be a hit.
The Nintendo Switch 2 version of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 will support higher resolution, smoother frame rates, and HDR compared to the original Switch release. The newly launched hardware is expected to handle the game much more efficiently. And most importantly, the launch will happen simultaneously across all platforms on July 11, including PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch 2 (already available for pre-order on the Nintendo eShop), PC (Steam, Microsoft Store, Battle.net), PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
