Warhammer Blood Bowl: A Major Update Has Grown Into a Standalone Game! [VIDEO]

Cyanide Studio and Nacon, currently restructuring after a bankruptcy filing, have announced a new game – and it creates a slightly tricky situation.

Warhammer Blood Bowl is an official, turn-based tactical fantasy football game based on the famous tabletop game of the same name. Set in the Warhammer universe, it delivers a strategic and brutal experience where players take control of a team chosen from a wide range of factions (Elves, Orcs, Dwarfs, and more), customize and develop it, and compete against others online. Built on the latest official rules of the newest edition, it introduces two new factions (Tomb Kings and Bretonnians) and aims to deliver a content-rich package that will keep evolving after launch via a seasonal system and a competitive ecosystem, culminating each year in a community-hyped World Championship.

At launch, the game will offer 26 factions, multiple competitions, and both single-player and multiplayer modes. There’s no step back in content or features. Warhammer Blood Bowl builds on the solid foundation of Blood Bowl III, positioned as the natural continuation of the work the team has done over the three years since the previous release. It brings updated rules, refreshed rosters, new competitions, new tutorials, and an all-new mode called Rumble. This new mode delivers 30-minute matches with smaller teams on a tighter pitch. Rumble is faster and more intense, while still keeping the tactical, brutal DNA of classic Blood Bowl. A free trial will be available on Steam from March 18 to March 25.

In the demo, players can jump into this faster-paced mode with new rules and tutorials, in a limited content setup that includes one PvP and one PvE mode. These can be played using pre-built teams from five factions (Dark Elves, Lizardmen, Necromantic Horrors, Khorne, and the Old World Alliance). Players can dive into this legendary sport and take part in fierce, dynamic matches that reward tactical thinking and perseverance. No matter the dice rolls or how the match twists, the best player will always find a way to secure the win.

Warhammer Blood Bowl is slated to launch sometime this spring for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. If you already own Blood Bowl III, you’ll get it for free, and your existing account plus any unlocked or purchased content will carry over.
