A rumor touched on several games inside the French publisher’s pipeline, and very little about the situation sounds encouraging. In fact, it mostly points in the opposite direction.
Tom Henderson, founder of Insider Gaming and the outlet’s main insider, briefly discussed the state of Ubisoft’s upcoming lineup on the site’s weekly podcast. After repeating that the Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag remake is the next major title on the release schedule, he added that the new Ghost Recon game is expected to follow after that. It has been a long time since Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Breakpoint, which launched in October 2019 to mixed reviews and disappointing sales. Ubisoft tried to repair the damage by introducing Immersive Mode and bringing back the series’ signature AI teammates, but it was too little and far too late. The battle royale spin-off, Ghost Recon Frontline, was ultimately canceled in July 2022 after an overwhelmingly negative reaction from fans.
Not long after that, in early 2023, Henderson himself reported that the next main entry in the tactical shooter series was targeting a 2025 release. Last year, however, that target was shifted to 2026. Based on what he said in the new podcast, that date still appears possible, while the long-awaited Splinter Cell remake from Ubisoft Toronto has now been delayed to 2027. Henderson also mentioned that the next Far Cry game has been through development hell.
That is especially notable because Far Cry remains one of Ubisoft’s most valuable franchises. Alongside Rainbow Six and Assassin’s Creed, it is one of the three core series being handled by the new Vantage Studios subsidiary, the company established jointly with Tencent. A few months ago, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot confirmed that two new games are in development within the Far Cry IP. Previous rumors suggested that one is a numbered sequel and the other a multiplayer spin-off. Those games are now expected in 2027, or at the very latest in 2028. Finally, Henderson noted that the Rayman remake is progressing well, although that too has been pushed back until next year.
That would leave Ubisoft with a rather thin slate for this year. It does not sound particularly promising.
