As expected, the release of the new content pack for Battlefield 6 has brought many players back to the live-service game.
Electronic Arts and Battlefield Studios officially launched the third season of Battlefield 6 with the first phase, Warlords: Supremacy. This phase introduced three new weapons and accessories and expanded Battlefield Redsec with a ranked Battle Royale series. Most importantly, it brought the Railway to the Golmud map. Currently the largest map in Battlefield 6, Golmud has also contributed to the game’s concurrent player count on Steam reaching its highest level in months. However, Battlefield 6 is struggling to match its launch-day numbers. The last time it had more than 100,000 concurrent players on Steam was in January, and it hasn’t approached that threshold since.
While it’s not much closer to that number today, the launch of Season 3 and Railway to Golmud resulted in the biggest jump in the past two months, with over 80,000 players joining to check out the new track. The challenge now is to retain these players and grow the player base throughout Season 3. The start of Season 2 also brought a surge in players, but it didn’t last until the end of the season, and concurrent player numbers soon dropped back to current levels. Part of Battlefield 6‘s difficulty stems from how much the second season was delayed compared to the first. Fortunately, according to Battlefield Studios, this kind of delay won’t happen again; they called it a one-off.
Assuming there won’t be any more delays, it’s easy to imagine Battlefield 6 taking off during this season and the highly anticipated fourth season, when naval warfare will be added to the game. This could prove to be a significant turning point for the new Battlefield.
