iPhone 20: Revolutionary, but Not Durable?

TECH NEWS – Rumors suggest that durability is a secondary concern for the Cupertino-based tech giant when it comes to the device.

As part of the new design of the iPhone 20, a four-sided curved display will be incorporated that flows seamlessly to the edges. This will make the device, which is being launched in celebration of Apple’s 20th anniversary, one of the most futuristic devices available. However, its durability is a cause for concern for those who will have to carry such a flagship device. Furthermore, Apple is not expected to make the new iPhone more resistant to drops than the current product line. According to a leaker, this is due to a decision that the company will stick to.

Apple is rumored to be considering a return to titanium alloy because, despite aluminum’s better heat dissipation, it is less durable than the material used in the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max. On Weibo, Fixed-Focus Digital Cameras believes the switch won’t happen that soon. Aluminum is expected to remain the preferred metal as future smartphones become more AI-based. Given the capabilities of the chipsets and other internal components, Apple shouldn’t abandon aluminum. The iPhone 20 is expected to be one of the most powerful devices of its generation, but this will come at the cost of increased power consumption.

If aluminum dents easily, try dropping a smartphone with a titanium alloy frame. It won’t come out unscathed, either. For instance, in a drop resistance test comparing the iPhone 17 Pro Max and the Galaxy S25 Ultra, Apple’s current flagship model performed well – but only if it didn’t land on its corner. Similarly, the Galaxy S25 Ultra sustains less damage when it lands on its corner but is more vulnerable to impacts from other angles. Rather than blaming the manufacturers, users should handle their expensive smartphones more carefully by using screen protectors and durable cases.

Any device will be damaged if dropped from a certain height. The iPhone 17 Pro Max is no exception, regardless of whether it is made of aluminum or titanium alloy. The leaker also stated that, for the aforementioned reasons, it is highly unlikely that Android smartphones will switch from aluminum to titanium alloy.
