[XGS 2026] Xbox Celebrates Its 25th Anniversary: Limited-Edition Console and Controller Coming Soon! [VIDEO]

Quite a lot of time has passed since 2001, and Microsoft has been part of the console market ever since the first-generation Xbox launched that year.

Microsoft is using a transparent design on the Xbox Series X for the first time, drawing inspiration from the original Xbox and the original green color that many players still remember. The Xbox Series X 25 Limited Edition pays tribute to that history while delivering the performance and powerful capabilities of the Xbox Series X, including 1 TB of storage, with a design that reflects the journey already taken and the community that has accompanied the brand all the way. From the moment the console powers on, these details come to life. The iconic “X” lights up green, referencing the startup of the original Xbox, complemented by the Xbox 25th Anniversary logo on the front and other design elements celebrating Xbox fans and classic hardware design.

Microsoft has also introduced the Xbox Wireless Controller X25 Special Edition in transparent OG Green, reflecting 25 years of gaming. From the original ABXY colors to the timeless green, every detail refers back to the beginning, including the buttons, which evoke the black-and-white buttons of the original Duke controller. The rear shell and battery cover are fully transparent, making the classic Xbox logo visible. The console and controller will be available as a limited-edition collection in select markets in November, while the Xbox Wireless Controller X25 Special Edition will also be sold separately. Microsoft will share more information soon about pricing and preorder options at select retailers.

After 2024, then, we are getting another limited anniversary hardware release, since 2024 brought the 30th Anniversary Edition of the PlayStation 5, along with a controller. We will be curious to see the pricing of the Xbox Series X and the controller, because in the case of the former, it seems almost certain that another price increase will be added on top of what players are already paying compared with the launch period.
