Quantic Dream Developers Protested to Save Star Wars Eclipse!

The French development team believes that laying off 115 people could leave the game unfinished, wasting years of work.

A few days ago, several Quantic Dream employees organized a strike outside the studio’s Paris headquarters. Their goal was to save as many as 115 colleagues facing layoffs and protect the studio’s major Star Wars Eclipse project. The game was officially announced at The Game Awards in 2021, and its development has reportedly been underway for years.

The studio has faced difficulties in several areas, including the recruitment of new talent. In late 2025, Quantic Dream announced Spellcasters Chronicles, a 3v3 MOBA that was shut down last month after only a few months of operation. The closure triggered internal restructuring and major job cuts at the French developer.

As many as 115 employees from the Spellcasters Chronicles team could lose their jobs, which is why the strike took place. Two protesters spoke to Gamekult and explained that they were trying to save not only their colleagues’ positions but also Star Wars Eclipse itself. They believe the game cannot be completed if the layoffs go ahead.

“It is far from an act of sabotage. On the contrary, we are trying to save Star Wars Eclipse. We could release the game with 115 more people, and that would not be overstaffing: it is exactly what is needed. We are understaffed, like many other companies in the industry, because management knows very well that passion leads to crunch and games will eventually be released, but it is impossible to run the industry sustainably this way.” Jules said.

“As things stand, we believe the game literally cannot be finished if the redundancy plan is implemented according to the current schedule. We absolutely need the 115 people who have been inactive, or almost inactive, for a month. That is an entire month of lost production! During that time, staff could have been trained to use the specific tools for Star Wars Eclipse. Many people on our team only come in once per week, and even then it is mainly to see their colleagues, because there is no longer any concrete work for them on Spellcasters Chronicles. We also want management to see these people, who are eager to work but cannot do so.” Théo added.

The strike date was not chosen randomly either. Lucasfilm visited Quantic Dream’s headquarters on Thursday to review the development status of Star Wars Eclipse. The situation could be serious, as rumors claim that NetEase wants to sell the studio it acquired for €100 million in early 2023. If Lucasfilm does not agree to finance the rest of development, the entire project may be in jeopardy.
