Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced: Ray Tracing in Every Graphics Mode on PlayStation 5! [VIDEO]

Ubisoft has revealed more technical details about the Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag remake.

Only a few days remain until the release of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, and Ubisoft has recently shown what PlayStation 5 Pro players can expect. A new trailer and a PlayStation Blog post both detail the features the game will support.

These include ray-traced global illumination, ray-traced reflections, and PlayStation’s recently released enhanced upscaling technology, PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, also known as PSSR 2.0. Ubisoft has also outlined exactly what the different graphics modes on standard PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro consoles are intended to achieve.

Regardless of which PlayStation console players own, they can choose between Performance, Fidelity, and Balanced graphics modes. Every mode will run in upscaled 4K, although PlayStation 5 Pro owners will also benefit from PSSR 2.0.

The only changing value is the target frame rate: Performance mode targets 60 FPS, Fidelity mode targets 30 FPS, and Balanced mode targets 40 FPS. That is broadly in line with what players have come to expect from console games offering multiple graphical settings.

PlayStation 5 Pro owners will receive a better implementation of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced’s ray-tracing features than players using the standard PlayStation 5. That is hardly surprising, but it does show Ubisoft has tried to preserve some parity for players who may not be able to afford a PlayStation 5 Pro.

“We rebuilt the game from the ground up using the latest version of the Anvil engine. We modernized nearly every system while preserving the spirit and identity of the original game. The result is an experience tailored to modern PlayStation hardware, with a 60 FPS option, HDR support, Dolby Atmos, DualSense haptic feedback, and numerous other improvements.

When rebuilding Assassin’s Creed Black Flag on the latest version of Anvil, our goal was not only to modernize the technology. We wanted to strengthen the sense of immersion, adventure, and discovery that made Edward Kenway’s journey so memorable in the first place. PlayStation 5 hardware gave us the opportunity to take that experience further than ever before, from how the world looks and sounds to how it feels.” Ubisoft wrote.

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced launches on July 9 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series consoles, and PC.
