While a new Rainbow Six game is in development (Rainbow Six Quarantine), let us not forget about Siege which is almost four years old.
DualShockers sat down to talk with Alex Karpazis, who works as Rainbow Six: Siege’s presentation director at Ubisoft. (These job posts start to sound more and weirder, don’t they?) A question quickly popped up: what will happen to Siege? The next-gen Xbox and PlayStation are a little over a year away from hitting the stores’ shelves. (Their pricing is a big question mark, though: the tariff war between the United States and China might affect the European pricing, too…)
„So, we are here to stay for a long while, and absolutely, we want to bring the game to as many people as possible, but we don’t have anything right now that we can announce,” Karpazis said. This is the typical PR talk that we see from Ubisoft (just think of what Yves Guillemot, the CEO of Ubisoft, said about the return of Splinter Cell – we have discussed it, too).
Let’s think about what Karpazis said: bringing the game to as many people as possible could mean something else, too – namely, the Google Stadia. Seeing Ubisoft in one bed with the Stadia (no, don’t think about it…), we wouldn’t rule out that Rainbow Six: Siege would get a port to Google’s streaming service. The game originally came out on December 1, 2015, on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
Rainbow Six: Siege is a game that Ubisoft continues to support (its fourth year’s third season, Operation: Ember Rise was announced – the French company is obviously using the live service approach), and it wouldn’t surprise us if it showed up on the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Project Scarlett (whatever their name will be), too… even as a launch title.
