Google’s game streaming service offers Gearbox’ game, Borderlands 3 as well, but there are issues.

Google Stadia launched a month ago, and we tried keeping an eye on the situation revolving around the games and the platform’s performance. Now, the popular looter-shooter series’ newest instalment showed up on the Stadia, but Take-Two (the publisher who also owns the 2K brand) and Gearbox Software (the devs) should feel ashamed about it. Why? Borderlands 3 on the Stadia is a two months old build! In other words: people who spent money on it got an outdated version…

Gearbox had to issue the following statement: „Google’s new Stadia gaming platform is now available, and if you’ve already got your hands on one [that sounds weird: all you get physically is a Chromecast Ultra and a Stadia controller – the ed.] you can start playing Borderlands 3 on it right now. The moment you purchase the Stadia version of the game, which is available at a special launch price for a limited time, it’s ready for you to play. Not only will you not need to download the game or any updates, but you also won’t have to download any of the upcoming campaign add-ons if you decide to buy them later or as part of the Season Pass that’s included with the Super Deluxe Edition.

We aim to achieve feature parity [same version number everywhere – the ed.] for all versions of Borderlands 3 early in 2020, but for the moment the version of the game that you play on Stadia has benefitted from the updates and fixes that were released through October 24. The Stadia version of Borderlands 3 can be played in 4K with a Stadia Pro subscription and the proper TV setup.”

That is a somewhat pathetic comment: while the promote Borderlands 3 having no download necessary, they offer an outdated version of the game, and we don’t even know when the Stadia version will catch up to the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC versions, making the Stadia port the worst of them all. Perhaps that’s why it costs 40 dollars now: the DLC that were launched since are not in the game at the moment!

These stories don’t give confidence towards the Stadia.
