Is Borderlands 3 Also Getting A Nintendo Switch Port?

„Also” – that word was used intentionally, as Gearbox‘ game has recently been confirmed to head to the next-gen consoles.

Nintendo Life reports that on top of the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S version, Borderlands 3 might be available on the Nintendo Switch, too, as Randy Pitchford’s team’s eyes have been replaced by dollar signs, due to the platform having solid sales.

Fractured Byte might not say much, so we’ll add that they have been the developers behind the Nintendo Switch version of Borderlands Legendary Collection. They have a job listing, found by a YouTuber, and it seems to hint that the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, and PC will be joined by the Nintendo Switch in terms of availability.

According to the job listing, they mention experience with Unreal Engine 3, even though Borderlands 3 was made with Unreal Engine 4 in mind, but the Legendary Collection used UE3. They also mention experience with shooters, and they specifically ask people to help „ship games like Borderlands 1 and Borderlands 2 for Nintendo Switch,” linking to the technical analysis of the Switch version by Digital Foundry, probably in pride.

Fractured Byte worked on the Borderlands Legendary Collection with Turn Me Up Games, so if Gearbox wants to port its newest game to the Switch, they might already have assigned the team to do so. We’re not sure if the game can run on the big N’s platform, but previously, we have seen Borderlands 2 on the PlayStation Vita (even though the quality was questionable), but we have also seen The Witcher 3 pop up on the Switch, and that ain’t a small game.

Since the Switch sells nicely (helped by killer apps such as Animal Crossing: New Horizons…), it’s not surprising to get more ports on the platform. Perhaps this is why Nintendo is reportedly working on a stronger model.
