MOVIE NEWS – Christian Bale began his role as Bruce Wayne in 2005’s Batman Begins.

Before Christian Bale, many actors have played Batman/Bruce Wayne over the years, from Val Kilmer to George Clooney. Later on, Ben Affleck and, most recently, Robert Pattinson donned the bat suit. There have been some well-received and some not-so-well-received performances, but there is no denying that Christian Bale was one of the best Batmen ever to grace the silver screen. Of course, it also helps that his films, The Dark Knight trilogy, are considered among the best comic book adaptations of all time.

The Christopher Nolan-directed films were so popular that Bale was beginning to think he could never stop playing the character.

In an interview with GQ, the actor spoke about his time with the franchise and said he loved playing the character but felt he might never be able to leave the movies. When asked if he was worried about being stuck in the role forever, he said, “Yeah, but I loved it. I loved that because I was like, ‘This could be it. I could never be anything but that,’ and for a lot of people, I won’t,” he explains.

“I was like, ‘Ah, maybe I’m going to be forced to go do something different.'” Bale can be pleased with his decision to stick with the franchise, having played the character for seven years before hanging up the cape. Since then, he has returned to the world of comic book adaptations, portraying Gorr the God Butcher in Thor: Love and Thunder.

In an interview with GQ, Bale acknowledged the cultural impact of Nolan’s films, though he feels it’s not really his own merit.

“I always just felt like it was a thing that someone else did, really, in a lot of ways,” he explained. “I was like, ‘Oh yeah. That thing happened over there. And that’s doing very well over there, I hear. That’s great.’ And I’m off going to Ralphs, the supermarket, to get bananas.” Despite his humility towards the project, Bale undoubtedly contributed significantly to the success of The Dark Knight trilogy.

The 47-year-old actor has since stated that he would return to the role if director Christopher Nolan ever asked him, but don’t expect that anytime soon. Nolan is currently working on his next epic, Oppenheimer, while Bale is busy with projects such as Amsterdam and The Pale Blue Eye. However, even if the actor doesn’t return as Batman, fans are hopeful that Bale and Nolan could reunite for a future project.
