Christian Bale Plays A Detective In A Gothic Murder Story, With Not Just Anyone!

MOVIE NEWS – Christian Bale’s detective Christian Bale will star alongside Edgar Allan Poe in The Pale Blue Eye.

For the first time ever, Oscar-winner Christian Bale is set to star in Netflix’s upcoming Gothic crime thriller The Pale Blue Eye. In the image, courtesy of Netflix, Bale is seen wearing a long, stubbled beard and a short top hat as he makes his way through an eerie forest, and it’s undoubtedly one of the most classic Gothic images we’ve seen in a while.

The Pale Blue Eye, adapted from Louis Bayard’s 2006 novel of the same name, is expected to follow the same plot as the source novel and transport viewers to 1830.

At West Point Academy, the body of a young cadet is found hanging from a rope in an apparent suicide. The next morning, however, something terrible happens. Someone breaks into the room where the body was laid out and removed the heart. Perplexed and desperate to avoid negative publicity, the academy enlists the help of a former New York City police detective, now a local civilian, Augustus “Gus” Landor (played by Christian Bale).

Landor, now a restless widower, agrees to take the case when he retires.

The real twist comes when Landor is partnered with one of the academy’s young cadets, who happens to be the real-life legendary author and poet Edgar Allan Poe, played by Harry Potter and Queen’s Gambit star Harry Melling. (There is some sweet irony in the fact that Dudley Dursley is playing the American literary legend, isn’t there?)

The Pale Blue Eye will have a limited theatrical premiere on December 23, 2022, and will be available on Netflix from January 6, 2023.
