MOVIE NEWS – The long-awaited Tron sequel, Tron: Ares, the Jared Leto-starring film, is back in development.

The long-awaited Tron sequel, Tron: Ares, is back in development. Oscar-winning star Jared Leto will play the lead role. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales and Marco Polo director Joachim Rønning. The news comes courtesy of Deadline. Filming is set to begin in August 2023 in Vancouver if all goes well.

According to the report, Disney is now in talks with director Joachim Rønning, who has previously worked on several projects for the studio giant.

This Leto-led instalment of the Tron franchise has been in development since 2017. The actor, who revealed back in 2020 that the title would be Tron: Ares, has since stated how excited he is to continue the legacy. “I’m struck with such gratitude for the opportunity to bring this movie to life, especially as both the original video game and the film affected me so deeply as a young child,” Leto said. “The fact that I get to be a part of this new chapter is mind-blowing. I am so very excited and proud to confirm that YES – I will be starring in TRON. We will work as hard as we possibly can to create something that I hope you all will love. We have some very special ideas in store for you all… See you in the Grid!”

What precisely the title Tron: Ares means is yet to be seen. Ares, of course, is the Greek god of war and courage and will reportedly be the name of Jared Leto’s character.

Maybe the digital world of The Grid will start to spill over into ours, which could lead to war… but for now, we’ll have to wait and see.

The latest version of the Tron 3 script was written by Jesse Wigutow, and Tron: Ares will be produced by Leto alongside Justin Springer and Emma Ludbrook.
