One of the best games of 2016 is now on sale for just $3, thanks to the Xbox sale, so gamers can get it for a significant discount.
XCOM 2, the critically acclaimed tactical RPG from Firaxis Games, is currently on sale for Xbox owners at an insanely low price. However, the promotion listed on Microsoft’s Xbox Marketplace expires in a few hours, so those interested should grab the title now while it’s still on sale.
XCOM 2 is the sequel to the reboot of the 2012 X-COM series, XCOM: Enemy Unknown. Developed by Firaxis Games and published by 2K Games, this reimagined version of the franchise was critically acclaimed at launch.
The Xbox 360 version of XCOM: Enemy Unknown scored an impressive 90 on Metacritic. It has also received numerous Game of the Year awards from various places. Now gamers have the chance to get their hands on XCOM 2 at a great price.
The famous 2016 XCOM 2, which is typically still available for full price ($59.99) on the Xbox Marketplace. Today, you can buy it for as little as $2.99. The price of XCOM 2 Digital Deluxe Edition has also been reduced and is currently available for just $7.49. Sadly, the XCOM 2 Collection bundle is still available at a total price of $99.99. XCOM 2 had the advantage over the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in that the PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of the game were released on upgraded hardware. It was also well-received by critics when it was released four years later. The Xbox One version of the game scored 87 points on Metacritic. It also did well at the 2016 Golden Joystick Awards (though not as well as 2022’s Elden Ring), with nominations for Game of the Year and PC Game of the Year.
The Game Awards 2016 nominated it for Best Strategy Game for its turn-based tactics title, and the 20th Annual D.I.C.E. Awards honoured it in the Strategy/Simulation Game of the Year category.
The future of the XCOM series remains unclear. 2K Games was pleased with the title’s sales in its 2016 financial report. But since then, there has been no official word on a possible XCOM 3. Yet there are plenty of great ideas about where the XCOM franchise could be heading next.
Firaxis Games hasn’t slowed down on releasing titles after XCom 2. The developer next followed up with the very successful Sid Meier’s Civilization VI. Then in 2022, the team launched Marvel’s Midnight Suns on PC and console.
