Elden Ring 2 May Be Coming?! Hidetaka Miyazaki Answers

Speaking about Elden Ring and upcoming DLCs, director Hidetaka Miyazaki revealed that there are currently no plans for Elden Ring 2.

According to Elden Ring director Hidetaka Miyazaki, developer FromSoftware currently has no plans for an Elden Ring 2. The latest fantasy action game from the team behind Bloodborne and the Dark Souls series was released in 2022. It was an instant hit.

Elden Ring lived up to its predecessors regarding gameplay, a dark and mysterious story, and FromSoftware and Miyazaki’s trademark difficulty level.

In an interview with IGN, Miyazaki said that FromSoftware currently has no plans to develop a sequel to Elden Ring. He didn’t completely rule out the idea of an Elden Ring 2, saying, “We don’t want to say this is the end of the Elden Ring saga for now.” However, he stated, “We don’t have any current plans to make a second DLC or a sequel.” Instead, Miyazaki explained, the team is leaving the option of continuing if a good idea comes along. However, he is not actively working on it.

No Elden Ring 2, but are new DLCs still coming?

This news will likely disappoint fans who were hoping for another post shortly. True, he ended his speech by saying that “there may be something in the future”. But he made it clear that this will not happen recently. For now, Elden Ring fans should check out some other great games. Also, they must commit to making the most of Shadow of the Erdtree when it comes out in June.

Although Miyazaki is clearly trying to temper fan expectations, those hoping for a sequel probably shouldn’t despair entirely.

He clearly stated that more content can be created if the right idea comes along. Also, the fact that FromSoftware now owns the Elden Ring IP. Because he recently bought the full rights from the publisher Bandai Namco. This indicates that the management of the company would like to have the possibility to continue the franchise in the future. If nothing else, owning the IP means that the developer has a greater financial incentive to release a sequel later on.

According to industry observers, Elden Ring 2 could be bigger and better than the original. (Even if it doesn’t have to be to succeed.) Plenty of fans are waiting for it to live up to those expectations. Miyazaki’s statement may dampen those hopes somewhat. But given the broader context, players shouldn’t give up hope entirely just yet.
