MOVIE NEWS – It is George R.R. Martin himself who promises an Elden Ring movie or TV series…
The Shadow of the Erdtree DLC just came out, but George R.R. Martin has already promised an Elden Ring movie or TV series.
In a post on his (not a) blog, the author of Game of Thrones strongly hinted that an adaptation of FromSoftware’s masterpiece is indeed in the works.
“Oh, and about those rumours you may have heard about a feature film or television series based on Elden Ring… I have nothing to say,” he said. “Not a word, nope, not a thing, I know nothing, you never heard a peep from me, mum mum mum. What rumour?”
As George R.R. Martin said in a blog post, the famous fantasy writer “did the worldbuilding” for Elden Ring. FromSoftware boss Hidetaka Miyazaki and his team “did all the rest”. Now, it really looks like an Elden Ring movie or TV series is in the works. And George R.R. Martin will probably be involved in some form.
An Elden Ring movie has often been floated as a possibility, with fans wondering how it could be adapted. Miyazaki himself recently revealed that he would be open to an adaptation of the studio’s 25 million-selling 2022 action role-playing game. But only if a “very strong partner” comes into the picture.
“I don’t see any reason to deny another interpretation or adaptation of Elden Ring, a movie for example,” Miyazaki explained in an interview with The Guardian.
“But I don’t think myself, or FromSoftware, have the knowledge or ability to produce something in a different medium.”
“So that’s where a very strong partner would come into play,” Miyazaki continued. “We’d have to build a lot of trust and agreement on whatever it is we’re trying to achieve, but there’s interest, for sure.”
Meanwhile, Shadow of the Erdtree sold wonderfully well. Five million copies were sold in just three days! We liked it, too – read BadSector’s review if you haven’t already!
