PREVIEW – Bethesda is releasing one of its core series to the PlayStation 4, an online game from the Elder Scrolls series called Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited. The story takes place a thousand years before Skyrim, and just a little before Tiber Septim, Tamriel’s ruler’s reign. There will be lot to do.

 

It doesn’t seem to difficult to start a preview of such a game that is known from inside and out in PC world. Okay we have Skyrim, but we can’t try out fully this episode until the 9^th of June. However there are no surprises with regards to information, no publisher secrets. We get what we see, no hype is needed. Bethesda has decided to share every information with the owners of the PlayStation 4.

From choice to choice

After the opening intro we can begin creating our very own character, and escape from Coldharbor prison. Right from the start the story can diverge into four separate paths depending on the class we chose. Let’s stop here for a second and allow me to mention that the four classes are different as the four choices. The classes have their own separate weaknesses and strengths. We can select to be either a Dragon Knight, or a Nightblade, or Mage or a Templar. Once a decision has been made, you’ll also be able to choose a faction. You can be with the Ebonheart Pact, whose members are from Dunmers, Nords, and Argonians. Join an alliance with Orcs and Redguards if we choose Daggerfall, and we can be friends with Khajits, elfs and Bosmers.

Ugly creatures

As there are a lot of options with regards classes, and allies there are also many foes that we will encounter during our adventures. We will slay spiders, trolls, fire breathing monsters etc. Of course all of these monsters have their weakness and their strengths, however their attack potential is vastly different. Certain enemies will not be bothered by our presence, while some will see us and attack us on sight.

Do it yourself.

As in all MMOs crafting is an important system, and here it is especially great. In every city/village there is a crafting point, where we can select which type of craftsmanship we wish to level up, and within this we can focus on fine tuning the skills. It’s a simple yet elegant system that gets the job done.

Final thoughts.

The Elder Scrolls series is not my favorite, but it does hold its own in the adventure genre. The graphics are up to par with current generation games. Content is plenty, and is a well put together game. Let’s see what June 9^th holds for us and if we get to use the touchpad in this new and fun MMO.
