SPOTIFY – Fifth Harmony is an American group formed on the season 2 of X-factor USA. They finished the show at the third place behind Tate Stevens and Carly Rose Soneclar, thereafter the group made their debut single Miss Movin’ On. This track peaked at number 76 on the US Billboard 100 and was certified Gold by the RIAA for the high digital-copy downloads.

 

When the girls formed the Fifth Harmony band, their music had an interesting narrative, which said „We are strong” but this narrative begun to deflate not long ago. Fifth Harmony’s reflection to the decadent pop-industry is their new album. Their songs inside Reflection are very simple tracks only, there isn’t any fresh ideas in their lyrics, and their perspective is the same which they used before, because, really, they have nothing left to say anymore.

Representation

Fifth Harmony’s true strengths lies in the voice and beauty of their pretty female singers. We have here five different kind of girls, with five different talents and, and different voices as well. What’s pretty good with this band, it’s how those diverse talents can work together to produce something which can entertain us – even if the lyrics aren’t really deep or interesting.  Even more remarkable is that we can actually find in the voices of the members traces of the styles of Beyonce, Ariana Grande, Nicki Minaj and also Taylor Swift. All those make a pretty good balance in Fifth Harmony.

Success or Failure?

In my opinion the mainstream media tries to sabotage the pop-music with releases like this. ”Audience want more innovative ideas, another perspectives and songs, which have something to say.” Iconic characters of the pop music are said before, “If the world want to listen the same tracks again and again from different artists, we can make the same song for a million times, and we will be happy…”. I think we don’t need songs without originality, innovation or personality. When we are listening to a song from Pink, we get to know her thoughts, her personality. Fifth Harmony doesn’t give thoughts you like these, the girls have good voice, and they are pretty hot but it doesn’t looks like they have any kind of interesting personalities.

What we miss here are real thoughts, new ideas and innovative perspectives. Well, maybe that’s what I miss personally, because in my opinion our generation doesn’t have the need for complex songs, they just want hot girls with funky moves impressive voices and a great body.  Is this right or wrong? I am not sure, but at least with Fifth Harmony we can be sure to have all those qualities.
