Without a doubt, E3 2015’s one of the biggest surprises was Sony announcing that YS Net would like to revive Shenmue and continue with the third game in the series. It’s been over a decade that the second game got into the shops. However, Yu Suzuki needed crowdfunding to get this game hit the road – it succeeded big time, breaking world records too in the process.
Since then, the Japanese team is working heavily on the third Shenmue game, and they continuously provide details about the development. The website was ignored a bit, but it just got a fresh new look (http://shenmue.link/?en) – it looks clean and easy to navigate.
YS Net also published a new demonstration video, which shows Bailu Village Hut for almost forty seconds. It’s not a lot, but it works as a tech demo – and who knows how much the visuals can still improve?
Shenmue III also got into the Guinness World Records. It broke the fastest pledged 1 million dollars (with just 104 minutes) and the most money pledged for a Kickstarter video game record (6.333.296 dollars).
