Oculus Rift Turns Its Back On DRM!

Digital Rights Management is getting removed from the Oculus Rift VR-headset with the 1.5 update.

DRM is a sensible subject in virtual reality. Although the Vive’s creator, Palmer Luckey has said that he would never use DRM for the Rift, an update brought digital rights management-related program codes in May for the headset.

However, LibreVR, a group of developers and hackers, has created a program called ReVive, which allows Oculus Rift games to be played on the HTC Vive. When the DRM update came, they followed suit, and they also shared the source code on GitHub.

Oculus saw the revolt against their move, and they decided to throw out DRM with the next update. LibreVR respected the decision, and they reverted the source code to the pre-DRM version.

DRM is not always the solution. Remember, GOG, which offers DRM-free, as well as retro, yet modern operating system supporting games for reasonable prices is successful as well.

Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
