Athena Worlds is developing a spiritual sequel to a console game that not many people remember (and even fewer remember positively…).
Athena Worlds, a British studio, has announced that it is working on a new stealth survival game called Xenomorph, which will be the spiritual successor to Alien vs. Predator, released in 1994 for the Atari Jaguar. Little is known about the game at this time. Jane Whittaker, former co-developer of Atari’s 1994 AvP game and CEO of Athena World, announced the project on her personal Twitter account (the tweet was deleted) and then issued a press release announcing the existence of Xenomorph.
“You have been asking me for a personal sequel to our Atari Aliens vs. Predator for 30 years… The funding and the team are in place. Production is underway! This is a very personal journey for me. So many people still talk about our work on Alien vs. Predator to this day, with a huge following. I have been asked for over 30 years to create my next survival and stealth strategy game. I am more than thrilled to say that thanks to the generous support, my day has come,” said Whittaker.
He also released a key art image from the game, and of course, what else can you see but the Xenomorph, in the classic position with both mouths open, waiting to pounce on its victim. Whittaker also confirmed that Mike Meaden will be the creative lead on the project and Blaire Wathen will be the character designer. According to the press release, we crash land on the planet XL-243 and quickly realize we are not alone, and the fight for survival begins. Xenomorph aims to be a groundbreaking open-world game of exploration, survival, high-stakes suspense, and combat.
Xenomorph is being developed for current-gen consoles (PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PC), but it may still be early in development, so it’s understandable if we don’t see much of it. We don’t even know when it will be released.
