When A Review Score Backfires

A YouTuber and a recently released game that has outstanding review scores – the result can be extreme.

Jim Sterling reviewed The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and in the end, he gave it a 7 out of 10 rating. The game’s current average on Metacritic is a 97 out of 100, and this could be the reason why a few people became so angry at Sterling that his website was under DDoS attacks.

„Unfortunately, it makes you work harder for it than you should, buried as it is under a pile of small but constant irritations that collaborate to form a thick crust of frustration around a delectable center,” Sterling said in his review. Could this review be his revenge against Nintendo for its copyright claims? (He talks about this subject in this video.)

Some commenters were mad at him because he could be one of the reasons why Breath of the Wild’s Metacritic score has dropped to 98 to 97. The only 99 score is held by The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time’s original, N64 release.

The joke is that despite the 7/10 score, Breath of the Wild got a „good” rating, so it’s unbelievable to see some people flip out at Sterling’s review…
