Cyberpunk: CD Projekt RED Took Precautionary Steps

The Polish team thinks it’s better to be safe than sorry.

This is the reason why they trademarked Cyberpunk 2077 and Cyberpunk at EUIPO. The latter name sounds a little generic, but CD Projekt RED has explained why they took this step: „A short answer would be something along the lines of this: we want to protect our hard work, and we don’t plan on using the trademark offensively – it’s a self-defense measure only.” You can read their detailed explanation below.

You can use this name elsewhere if it’s not for business purposes, as well as in games’ names, except if it’s way too similar to the Poles’ title. Their trademark doesn’t make the genre and the environment exclusive either – you can still find other cyberpunk games, like Deus Ex: Mankind Divided. CD Projekt RED has registered the name as early as 2011, and – to quote them – „there isn’t any evil plan behind that.”

In other words, there may be a DLC or a spin-off to Cyberpunk 2077.

Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
