Nintendo Did Break A Record After All While Shooting Itself In The Foot

In a month, they pulled something out of their hat.

According to American research firm NPD Group, the Nintendo Switch managed to sell 906K in just the United States, making it the best launching N console, beating out even the largely successful Wii as well. However, if you compare this result to the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One, you’d see a large difference: Sony sold 2.1 million in 14, while Microsoft sold 2 million in 18 days, respectively. The highest selling game – without surprise – is The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. 925K copies sold on the Switch, 460K on the Wii U. (More games sold than the console itself: it’s probably because some people have bought a limited edition too to put that on the shelf?)

On April 27, Nintendo will reveal the Switch‘s worldwide performance in their financial results report, so we’ll see how many million handheld/console hybrids were sold.

Oh, one more thing: the NES Classic Edition, which was just a temporary product, has been confirmed to be discontinued in North America after the last April shipment – meanwhile, Japan will only see a temporary halt in the Famicom Mini’s production…
