One Sony Bigwig Slams Backward Compatibility!

„Why would anyone play this?”

Jim Ryan, Sony‘s head of global sales and marketing says that not a lot of games will receive backward compatibility. However, Microsoft’s Xbox One seems to continuously add more X360 titles to be played on the current-gen console. Sony, on the other hand, seems to disapprove of the idea, meaning several games had to be re-released on PS4 and X1, sometimes for no reason.

Ryan told Time the following: „When we’ve dabbled with backward compatibility, I can say it is one of those features that is much requested, but not actually used much. I was at a Gran Turismo event recently where they had PS1, PS2, PS3 and PS4 games, and the PS1 and the PS2 games, they looked ancient, like why would anybody play this?”

The funny part of his comment is that Sony tends to grab several PS2 titles, give them 1080p resolution, Trophies, then re-release them digitally for 10-15 bucks at least. Also, there’s still a market for old PS1 and PS2 games.

Perhaps Ryan shouldn’t have said that comment…
