Shenmue III: Game Design Scaled Up Thanks To The Publisher

Deep Silver will play a role in the expansion.

During Gamescom, Yu Suzuki, the father of Shenmue, has confirmed that we can expect at least thirty hours of gameplay in Shenmue III, which had its release date pushed back. He talked more about the game to Metro GamesCentral:

„I don’t think it’s necessary to change the basics of the gameplay. If I change it too much, the existing fans will be very upset. Although I am always making up new ideas and things to add to the game, which can be a problem for my team who are trying to implement these ideas.

At the moment we are trying to keep it to 30% new and the keep the other 70% of the game similar to the original. But the design is constantly changing, and I am always coming up with new concepts that we can try to add to the game if there is the opportunity.”

The story was slightly changed since the original idea, as Suzuki wrote it in 2000 in eleven chapters – Shenmue II took things from the fourth, fifth, and sixth chapters, jumping over the third one. The story will slightly change, and thanks to Deep Silver, the game design was scaled up a bit so that Shenmue III will be bigger than before due to the publisher.

Shenmue III is out in the second half of next year on PlayStation 4 and PC.
