Did The PlayStation 4 Become The Best Selling Console In August?

Did Sony end the summer on a positive note, or did the rivals steal the limelight from them again?

NPD Group announced that in the United States, the best selling console in August was the Nintendo Switch. With this result, since its release, it led the charts for FOUR (!) months out of six. The PlayStation 4 managed to take the lead back in May and June. In the past twelve months, Sony’s console is still leading the race, though – the Switch has time to catch up to its rival.

On a year-on-year basis, hardware sales dropped by 6% to 168 million dollars (the Xbox One and the prev-gen consoles dropped the most), but in the first months of 2017, there’s a 17% increase in revenue to 1.7 billion dollars compared to 2016. The Switch is playing a significant role in the increase, and the NES Classic also helped.

Let’s see if Sony can take back the lead for September. With Destiny 2, it’s possible that it could happen!
