Baldur’s Gate 3: An iPad Pro (and Maybe iPhone) Port Coming?

The excellent game from Larian Studios is also rumored to be part of Apple’s games-focused strategy, so we can expect an iPad/iOS version of it as well.

Apple announced last year that several of its AAA games would be coming to the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and some iPad models. So far, the Cupertino company has kept its word, as Resident Evil: Village, Resident Evil 4 Remake, and Death Stranding have all appeared on the Apple App Store with better than expected performance and without sacrificing visuals. But this wasn’t just an isolated incident: there are now rumors that Baldur’s Gate 3 is also targeting Apple devices.

On Twitter, Dame Tech wrote that Baldur’s Gate 3 (which, not coincidentally, has won every award in the last six months and still has tens of thousands of concurrent players on Steam) could be coming to the iPad Pro, possibly iOS, in early 2025 (the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max should be mentioned alongside the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, as the new models are coming in the fall). As several AAA games have been ported to PC, Dame Tech is already wondering if the Apple App Store will be able to take over the top spot from the Google Play Store in the mobile games market.

This port (if developed) could attract more players and increase iPad and iPhone sales. Even on the A17 Pro chip, you can expect a refined experience with Baldur’s Gate 3, which runs relatively well on PC even on weaker video cards (depending on configuration). And Apple’s MetalFX upscaling technology could significantly improve frame rates.

None of this is official yet, so it’s likely that Apple won’t announce a Baldur’s Gate 3 port until WWDC.
