Kingdom Come: Deliverance Might Have Cost More Than We Would Have Thought!

It looks like the game isn’t set between an indie or an AAA title after all…

Last week, we wrote about how Martin Klíma, Kingdom Come: Deliverance‘s executive producer, said that he wished there was more time for the development and that the game didn’t want to compete against AAA titles such as Assassin’s Creed, as their budget was way less than what Ubisoft provided for their franchise.

That’s a good point, but Daniel Vávra’s (ex-2K Czech: Mafia) game got roughly 1.5 million dollars on Kickstarter. However, Forbes‘ latest Czech issue mentions in Vávra’s detailed profile that the game’s budget was 750 million Czech krones. That’s roughly 36.5-37 million dollars. We don’t know if this amount includes the crowdfunded money or not. Here, Zdeněk Bakala, a wealthy Czech billionaire, might have played a significant role – in 2011, he funded the creation of the game’s prototype, and it’s likely that he bankrolled more than that.

WCCFTech‘s article shows a photo of the magazine, which we translated into English: „Not everyone likes him, but you can’t take this away from him. Daniel Vávra created a gaming hit with the help of finances from Zdeňek Bakala which hasn’t been seen for a long time. Kingdom Come: Deliverance rose up from 0 to 1 000 000 (million) players in one week, and it’s obvious that this ride will continue.” Then, the right column mentions the budget (750M CzK as mentioned before), which includes the marketing costs too – this usually takes a significant amount for any major game -, then it talks about the reviews (the game is buggy, and the development was delayed a lot), but after taxes, the game is already making a profit. It also mentions that the game’s success is comparable to a scenario where a Czech movie wins an Oscar award.

The game is decent regardless, although there are several patches in the works for it…
