God Of War: Congratulations Here, Performance Analysis There [VIDEO]

Kratos and Atreus are just a week away from launch.

We’re not going to quote Cory Barlog, the director of God of War, word-by-word this time around (there’s no reason to do so), but he congratulated several people, including Chris Judge (voice of Kratos, you may know him as Teal’c from Stargate SG-1…), Danielle Bisutti (the mother of Atreus), Sunny Suljic (Atreus), and Bear McCreary, the composer of the game. You can read the thanks on Barlog’s Twitter.

Staying on Twitter for a moment, Phil Spencer, the head of Xbox, wrote the following: „Congrats @SonySantaMonica @yosp on the review scores and the upcoming launch of God of War. Looks like a special launch for the franchise, great job.” Shuhei Yoshida (that’d be the @yosp account), the head of PlayStation Worldwide Studios, thanked Spencer for the kind gesture. (Despite them being rivals, it’s heartwarming to see such actions.)

Polygon had a thing or two to say about God of War, though: „In God of War’s case, the increased resolution isn’t worth the frame rate trade-off. We tried the 4K mode during our review period and found that the game sometimes failed to maintain its 30 fps target. The drops happened often enough — both in combat and in merely exploring the world — to make us want to switch to Performance mode. The frame rate was more variable there; it didn’t stay locked at 60 fps, which would be a lot to ask. The game almost always ran far above 30 fps on this setting, and we preferred the increased responsiveness, especially in battle.” Let’s take a look at their comparison:

Another comparison between the PlayStation 4 and the PlayStation 4 Pro:

And one more, to not have to write about it later, the DigitalFoundry analysis:

God of War will launch on April 20. It is a PlayStation 4-exclusive.
