Epic Games‘ product now has a free route into the Chinese market.
It’s now official that Fortnite will launch „shortly” (at an unannounced date) in China, and not so surprisingly, its publisher is going to be Tencent. Tencent is already responsible for the Chinese version of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (not to mention the mobile versions…). However, Tencent (who recently gained a foothold in Ubisoft) has a 40% ownership in Epic, which makes it reasonable for them to have Fortnite in China.
Tencent will also have a 15 million-dollar investment into eSports to have the free-to-play game ready in both China and outside the communist country. DoNews adds that those who pre-order the game will receive unique items in Fortnite, and those who started playing Fortnite in foreign servers will have the option to move to the domestic Chinese servers, too.
As we said before, Tencent is slowly becoming an unavoidable company in the gaming industry!
