Call Of Duty: Black Ops IIII Wants To Defeat Fortnite And PUBG

Treyarch‘s goal is to reach the top with this year’s Call of Duty.

Australian publication Finder interviewed Matt Scronce, the game designer of Call of Duty: Black Ops IIII, and he gave a somewhat egoistic response:

„We wouldn’t do [a battle royale mode] if we didn’t think we could do it best and better than everybody else. We’ve got a huge library of content, ten years of history, we’ve got the best gunplay out there, we’ve got the best movement, so we’re not too worried about it. Honestly, we’re just worried about making this damn thing as fun as possible.

And look, we’re in a world where there’s plenty of room for multiple titles. People would sometimes ask ‘How are Battlefield and CoD going to exist in the same industry?’ We do. What we’re doing is going to be different. Some players will gravitate to us, and people may gravitate towards other games. We’re making something that, when we play it, we have a whole lotta fun and I think we can grow out from that.” He seems to have forgotten that Fortnite: Battle Royale is a FREE-TO-PLAY game, which plays a high factor in its popularity.

GamingIntel writes about how Call of Duty: Black Ops IIII will not have the ordinary approach to multiplayer season passes – the maps might be free updates every few months or so. Instead, the Zombies mode would get a season pass. „This change in direction is supposedly being sought by Treyarch due to the steady fall off in players that Call of Duty titles sees after the release of a map pack. While the player base sees a slight increase directly after the release of a new map pack, that drops back down again relatively quickly. To avoid this in the future a single or two monthly maps may be vastly superior,” the site says. Dan Bunting effectively confirmed it to Polygon: „I can tell you that we are pushing hard to release content to our fans in a way that’s going to make them happy and a way that we believe is the right thing to do in this stage in our game’s lifespan.”

Call of Duty: Black Ops IIII will launch on October 12 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
