Tim Willits, one of iD Software’s key members recently gave an interview about the possibility of mod support.
Rage 2 is being developed primarily by Avalanche Studios – the team behind such games as the Just Cause series and more recently, Mad Max – however, iD Software is still helping them creatively, they are still part of the development team. Because the latter studio has a big history with mods, it’s understandable that the question was asked if Rage 2 will have mod support or not.
Here’s what Tim Willits had to say about this:
„You know that at id Software we’re big into mods, so we know it’s important, we just haven’t figured out that roadmap yet.”
What that means is that there will be probably mod support in Rage 2, but not at launch. iD Software basically said the same in the case of Doom: Eternal as well. Willits also stated that similarly to the first Rage game, in the sequel car combat will be just as important.
Rage 2 is going to release in Spring 2019 on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
